Take a second, go on YouTube, look up the song, “Modern Day Prodigal Son”, “Whats Left Of a Small Town”, or “Friday Night” and you will learn a little about the man that is taking the country music scene by storm. His name you may ask? Brantley Gilbert. Born and raised in a small town just outside the city limits of Athens, Georgia, in a little town called Jefferson. Attend one of his shows, and you will feel the energy that each one of his loyal fans dubbed the “BGNation” feel. But it hasn’t been an easy road for Gilbert. At the age of 19, while attending Georgia College in Milledgville, Ga, Brantley Gilbert was involved in a serious car accident that nearly took his life. At that point , he decided to take “this music thing” as he puts it, seriously.
Gilbert formed a band in 2003 consisting of John Merlino, Jonathan Waggoner, Jesse Franklin, and Ben Sims called “The Brantley Gilbert Band”. They have been selling out shows all over the U.S over the last few years. People wonder why Gilbert has such a cult like following, part of it is the fact that Gilbert is a phenomenal performer. Another reason is because his music hits home for a lot of people. His fan base consists of individuals from all walks of life who can relate to the lyrics in songs. With songs like, “Saving Amy”, “My Kinda Crazy”, and “Fall into Me” to slow the pace of the show down and touch the soft side of his listeners, to songs like “Hell On Wheels”, “Take It Outside” and “Kickin It In The Sticks” that bring out the “outlaw” side in us all.
As stated by a close friend of Gilbert’s, “It was the music that drove the fan base and success, they talk about him as a bad ass country rocker, but it was the pure song writing talent and connection to people that made him who he is now.”
Brantley Gilbert is the future of country music. His current single, “Country Must Be Country Wide” is already sitting atop the billboard charts at number one and he has already penned out not one but two number 1 hits in “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem” made popular to the mainstream country listeners by Jason Aldean. Gilbert is well on his way to becoming one of the biggest hits in country music. Releasing a new single in December, “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do”. Gilbert is set to go on tour with Eric Church in 2012 on “The Blood, Sweat, and Beers” tour.
