Sit back and take a listen to The Daniel Lee Band and the first thing you will notice is the raw talent. The passion behind the lyrics of each one of their songs. Listen a little more and you will start to realize how true those words are. From the upbeat lyrics of “Redneck Routine” to the slow pace of “To Me”, The Daniel Lee Band will bring out the “southern” side in us all.
Forming the band in March of 2008, Daniel Lee says that they rehearsed two songs, one being his own and the other being a Tim McGraw song, a week later they played their first gig at 106 West, a church that had been rebuilt into a venue, which sat about 50 people in his hometown of Winder. “It was a learning experience ever since I started, and I still learn something everyday. I knew this is what I wanted to do since the first time I sat on my dad’s lap and sang Keith Whitley song. He let me strum and sing while he played the cords.”
When talking about what influences the band, Lee says, “There is nothing that we won’t listen to. Music is everywhere and is a very big part of our life, but if I had to narrow it down there would still be a list mile long. I think for the most part from a singer/songwriter’s point of view, there is so many great and talented singer/songwriter’s that have influenced me like Jamie Johnson, Randy Houser, The Peach Pickers (Rhett Atkins, Ben Hayslip, and Dallas Davidson) and even Brantley Gilbert. Brantley was actually my very first co-write on a song.” To further prove that Jamie Johnson is one of the people that influences Lee, in his CD player is a Jamie Johnson CD, its been in there for a year. Mainly because its stuck in there.
Being from Winder, Georgia, a city in Barrow County, I asked Lee what’s it like watching all of these musicians from Georgia “break out” into the music scene. He reply was, “It’s an exciting time in history for country/southern rock and music in general. I personally think that Georgia has a really big part it what’s going on right now. The charts will tell you. There is a great deal of songwriters and artists from here that have paved and are paving the way for bands like us. I’m excited to see what tomorrow holds.”
It seems like heading into 2012, the Daniel Lee Band has some great things going on. They are currently in negotiations with a record label right now. Right now plans for the band is to keep playing music and to gain as many friends as possible. Lee l wants to thank everybody over the years that have helped them get where they are now and thanks to all of their new friends that are helping them get where they are going. he says, “We love our DLBelievers!!”
